Switching from Kit to Holder

Kit exports well, and the file it produces is one of the richest here — tags and custom fields included. There is one trap at the start, and it catches nearly everybody: the checkbox at the top of the subscriber list selects the page, not the list.

What comes with you

• Contacts: yes. Email addresses, names, all your tags, all your custom field values, subscriber status and the date each person joined.
• Consent status: yes. Unsubscribed stays unsubscribed. Holder keeps a permanent suppression list and checks it at every send.
• History: no. Opens and clicks stay in Kit. They aren't in the export.

Export from Kit

• Go to Subscribers under the Grow tab
• Tick the checkbox at the top of the list. This selects only the subscribers on the current page
• Now click + Select all. Without this you export a few dozen people and think you're done
• Click Bulk Actions > Export
• Kit emails you a link when it's ready. You can also get it from the circle icon next to your profile picture, which shows the status of every bulk action you've run
• Download it promptly — export links expire after five days

Then do it again for the people who left. Filter the subscriber list by unsubscribed status and export that separately, using the same select-all step. Send us both files.

Your tags come across in the export as a column, which means your list structure survives the move. That is unusual and worth taking advantage of — you don't need to export each tag as its own file.

Import to Holder

• Upload both files. A CSV is all we need, and date formats are normalised on import
• Read the column mapping check, and map the tags column deliberately — that's your segmentation
• Combining this with a booking list or another audience: the merge preview matches on email address and shows you the difference field by field before anything is written
• Duplicates are flagged side by side. If one record says unsubscribed and the other says subscribed, the person stays unsubscribed

What Holder rebuilds rather than imports

• Sign-up forms and sequences
• Booking pages, session types, availability and packs, which Kit never had
• Under an hour for a working sign-up form and a welcome sequence

What doesn't come with you

• Sequences and visual automations. No export exists. If your sequences are long, copy the text out into a document before you close the account — it is genuinely tedious to lose good writing this way
• Forms and landing pages. These stay with Kit. Screenshot anything you want to reproduce
• Engagement data. No opens, no clicks
• Commerce and paid recommendations. If you sell products through Kit or earn through the recommendations network, none of that transfers and both need winding down deliberately

The last step

• Repoint every sign-up form and list link: website footer, link in bio, anything embedded elsewhere
• Send a test to yourself
• Take one address you know unsubscribed in Kit and confirm Holder is suppressing it. Do this before your first real send
