Switching from Flodesk to Holder

The cleanest export of any mail tool here: one file, everyone in it, status in a column. Ten minutes of work, and the only thing to get right is exporting the whole audience rather than a segment.

What comes with you

• Contacts: yes. Email addresses, names and your custom fields.
• Consent status: yes. Unsubscribed stays unsubscribed. Holder keeps a permanent suppression list and checks it at every send, so someone who left your list years ago cannot be emailed by accident later.
• History: no. Opens and clicks stay in Flodesk. They aren't in the export.

Export from Flodesk

• Go to Audience > Segments
• Hover over All subscribers, not one of your segments
• Click the three dots in the top-right corner of the card
• Select Download CSV
• The download link is emailed to the address you log in with, not to wherever you're sitting. If the link has expired by the time you get to it, just run the export again

The file includes everyone in the selected segment, unsubscribed, bounced and spam-marked contacts included, with the status in a column. That is exactly what you want, and it is why this export is less work than most.

If your segments carry real meaning — a workshop list, a client list, people from a particular event — export each of those separately as well. Segment membership is the only structure Flodesk holds, and one flat file loses it.

Import to Holder

• Upload the All subscribers file as it downloaded. Date formats are normalised on import
• Upload any segment files afterwards; they become tags
• Read the column mapping check, and make sure the status column is mapped. That is the one carrying consent
• Duplicates are flagged side by side. Where two records disagree about opting out, the more restrictive one wins

What Holder rebuilds rather than imports

• Sign-up forms and sequences
• Booking pages, session types, availability and packs, which Flodesk never had
• Under an hour for a working sign-up form and a welcome sequence

What doesn't come with you

• Form and email designs. Flodesk's designs are the reason most people are there and none of it transfers. Screenshot anything you want to reproduce
• Workflows. No export exists. Note down the triggers and timings before you close the account
• Engagement data. No opens, no clicks, no unengaged segment. If the pre-built Unengaged Subscribers segment matters to you, export it separately now so it survives as a tag
• Checkout and payment links. If you sell through Flodesk Checkout, that stays with Flodesk. Any live payment links need replacing before you close the account, or they break for the people holding them

The last step

• Repoint every sign-up form and list link: website footer, link in bio, anything embedded elsewhere
• Send a test to yourself
• Take one address you know unsubscribed in Flodesk and confirm Holder is suppressing it. Do this before your first real send
