Switching from Eventbrite to Holder

Eventbrite has no single "export my contacts" button. Who attended, what they answered at checkout, and who agreed to hear from you are three separate exports, and Holder needs all three together to build one clean record with consent intact.

What comes with you

  • People: yes. Everyone who bought a ticket, across all your events.
  • Consent: yes, but only for people on Eventbrite's Purchasers list. Buying a ticket is not permission to send marketing.
  • Payouts, refunds and orders: no. These stay with Eventbrite. Download them for your accountant.

Export from Eventbrite

Three exports, matched up by email address.

1. Everyone who has attended

  1. Go to Reporting at account level, not inside an event
  2. Select Attendees
  3. Choose all events, past ones included, then click Run report
  4. Export as CSV
  5. The file is prepared in the background. Download it from the Exports tab when it's ready

2. Their checkout answers

  1. Still in Reporting, choose Custom questions responses
  2. Click Show events, select them all, then Update report
  3. Export as CSV, and download it from Exports

3. Who agreed to hear from you

  1. Go to Marketing > Email campaigns > Subscriber lists
  2. Open the Purchasers list — the attendees who opted in at checkout. Click Download CSV
  3. Open the Unsubscribed Users list and download it too

If you run more than one organisation, use Switch Organization and repeat all three exports for each one.

For your records: go to Finance > Payouts, filter by date, and click Export.

Watch for:

  • Checkout answers older than two years are no longer available. Export them now
  • Some rows say "Info requested" instead of a name, because the buyer skipped those fields at checkout. Tidy those names in the spreadsheet before you upload, or fix them in Holder afterwards — rows with too little information get tagged needs attention after import
  • Team members need Basic reports permission for the first two exports, and Manage contacts for the third
  • Eventbrite events can carry on running alongside Holder until the last one has happened. Stop publishing new ones on Eventbrite once your Holder group sessions are live

Import to Holder

  • Upload all three files together. Holder matches rows across them, and to your existing clients, by email address — you'll see them flagged as possible matches rather than merged automatically, and you choose whether to update the existing record
  • Upload the Unsubscribed Users file as its own file and mark it as unsubscribed — Holder puts everyone in it straight onto the suppression list
  • For consent: upload the Purchasers list as its own file and tick the box confirming they agreed to marketing when you import it. That's the only way Holder grants marketing consent — it isn't read automatically out of any column
  • Read the column mapping check before anything is written
  • Duplicates are flagged side by side. Where two records disagree about opting out, the more restrictive one wins

What Holder rebuilds rather than imports

  • Booking pages, session types, availability, packs
  • Group and event listings, rebuilt as Holder sessions
  • Under an hour, by hand

What doesn't come with you

  • Payouts, refunds and order history. These stay with Eventbrite. Export them for your accountant
  • Event page design. No export exists in a usable form. Rebuild deliberately
  • Consent for anyone not on the Purchasers list. Buying a ticket alone is not permission to email someone

The last step

  • Repoint your booking link everywhere it appears
  • Take a test booking as a client and check the confirmation lands
  • Keep Eventbrite running until the last event on it has happened, and stop publishing new events there once Holder is live
